Best Practices for Working with LGBTQ Youth in Foster Care

This curriculum aims to increase the competence and enhance the skill of staff working with LGBTQ youth in out-of-home situations. The training will include how to obtain sensitive information and record it and ways to share sensitive information with caretakers, and steps that workers can take to improve the experiences of youth in foster care. Participants will also learn what steps can be taken by intake workers, case managers, social workers, youth supervisors and others to improve the experiences of LGBT youth accessing services. Discussion will be had on how administrators and managers can agency-wide culture and effectiveness in serving LGBT youth. Training will help adoption and foster care agencies improve policies and practices that affect their work with prospective parents.
