Panic or Plan: The Accreditation Mandate

The goal is to provide accreditation preparation training to child and family service agencies in South Carolina. This interactive training will focus on a thorough review of the major steps on the road to achieving national accreditation. It will highlight the many benefits of becoming accredited, including enhanced revenue opportunities and how to gain the necessary buy-in from staff and board members. 

Participants will learn about the fundamental organizational requirements necessary for accreditation, the key participants to include throughout the process, and how to avoid common pitfalls when preparing for accreditation. There also will be an overview of the five accrediting bodies selected by the South Carolina Department of Social Services’ for group care agencies: CARF, Council on Accreditation (COA) and The Joint Commission (JCAHO), NCQA and EAGLE, and a discussion of how to select the most appropriate one for your agency. 

Interactive activities include having participants to complete an Accreditation Readiness Self-Assessment (either online or hard copy) in the morning, the results of which will be tallied during the day and totals/trends shared with the group. Those results will then determine what key readiness factors will be discussed in greater detail in the afternoon, thus ensuring that the session is customized to the needs of the participants.

Also, small group discussions will focus on such topics as outcomes measurements and how to include stakeholders in an agency’s performance improvement process.

Who Should Attend: We encourage organizations to send a team of leaders to this training. The Executive Director, COO and QA person and/or risk management person will gain the most from the training.
